CHIMPANZEE CARBON
Secure forests for endangered chimpanzees and local indigenous communities
In western Tanzania, the turquoise waters of Lake Tanganyika lap onto white sand beaches fringed by tropical forests and mountains. These forests are one of Africa’s last chimpanzee strongholds, as well as many other species. The Bende, Tongwe, and Ha people have lived here alongside wildlife for millenia. The forest is their home too and supports their traditional lifestyle. This project generates carbon credits by protecting these forests. It contributes to eleven of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality, peace and justice, and life on land.
